Plans Afoot for our 100th Anniversary Party!

Tickets are now on sale for our Big 100th Anniversary Bash happening on Saturday, August 13th at Camp Alleghany during Family Camp. Read the blog for all the details!

January 18, 2022 By Elizabeth Shreckhise

It’s officially 2022 and The Year of ‘Ghany! Can I get a, “Woo hoo!”

So much is underway for this very special and historic summer across all of our programs. And one big culminating event in the whole summer is our Big Anniversary Bash in August!

While we’re celebrating all year, and all summer, too, we want to give you the earliest heads up possible to save the date for our Big Anniversary Bash which happens on Saturday, August 13th at Camp Alleghany during Family Camp. Our committee has been working creatively to plan a truly memorable event for this once-in-a-lifetime camp milestone.

When we started planning this, we knew we wanted a big bash during Family Camp to cap off our year of celebrating online and off. We had a huge party during Family Camp for our 90th (and you can read last week’s throwback Rattler to see that there was a big party for the 50th, too!).

Looking back at the success of past parties, and looping in the historic precedent they set, we knew we wanted to draw on similar elements that are beloved in the Alleghany community.

So here we are with both the save the date mentioned above, and some details that we’re ready to share with you. More than that, we’ve got a link to purchase tickets to the party that are available to our camp friends whether you’re coming to Family Camp or not!

Big 100th Anniversary Bash

Our Big Anniversary Bash takes the form of a vibrant and festive outdoor dinner and party in a huge rented tent next to the Play Hall. It happens rain or shine, so if needed we’ll move into the Play Hall in the event of rain.

It all starts with a cocktail hour featuring surprise signature drinks being concocted by our camp-inspired mixologists. After some sipping and mingling, we’ll move onto dinner with a specially planned buffet curated by us and provided by our experienced and personalized food service, Wolfoods.

After dinner, Applebutter Soul, the 7-piece band we’ve booked with a female vocalist, will kick off the music and phase three of our Bash! We are so excited to welcome them to Alleghany and have them be an “instrumental” part of our celebration ;).

During the band’s breaks the Bash will pivot to some lovingly crafted presentations highlighting our 100 years and to honoring some very special people.

The band will pick up afterward as we party under the same moon and stars that have shone over us for 100 summers.

All that’s left is you joining us for the Bash with a one-day ticket pass!

I am sorry to say that Family Camp for that weekend is fully booked and already has a wait list. If you really want to come for the whole weekend I’d encourage you to register for the wait list. But since interest is so high, and we’re expecting a crowd, it’s never too early to make alternative accommodations at nearby lodgings, local AirBnBs, or the historic Greenbrier Resort. (I can’t emphasize enough the need to book early as the West Virginia State Fair happens at the same time and is always a state-wide draw.)

One Night Passes

If you’re just interested in coming for the party and not staying at camp, well you’re in luck – we’re offering tickets for sale for just the party. Tickets are:

  • $75/adults 21 and over.
  • $37.50 for anyone 20 and under.

Tickets include a good old-fashioned Barge ride into “our side of the river” (cars stay parked on the other side of the river), admission into camp from 5-11pm, two drink tickets, all-you-can-eat dinner, exploring parts of the grounds, and entertainment and enjoyment of our celebration. More details can be found on our 100th Anniversary Page. Big Bash tickets can be purchased now:

I’m sure we’ll have more to share as the event shapes up more and we tease you with our camp-y details. But know this for sure: We hope to see you there!

Warmly,

Elizabeth Shreckhise, Director, Camp Alleghany for Girls
