Oh what a week we had at Mini Camp this summer — and it couldn’t have come at a better time!
We were so grateful that everyone in our community was patient and understanding with the many protocols and program tweaks which enabled us to have a full camp experience after 15 months of chaos in the world!
The 80 sweet girls that joined us for our 99th camp summer thrived in our beautiful rustic setting where they were free to run and play and make new friends without the screens and technology and restrictions they’ve been so connected to and constrained by through these last many months. It was a joy to watch each girl blossom and thrive!
A Taste of Camp, Mini Camp Style
Each Mini Camper had a taste of every ‘Ghany activity, tried new foods from our exceptional menu provided by Wolfoods, enjoyed a cookout and fireworks, saw the full moon rise over the mountains, and so much more!
Even after just one short week together parents have reported measurable differences in their daughters ranging from more confidence, self-reliance, kindness, and even an occasional gentle correction of their parents’ table manners — LOL!
We had wacky relays, tie-dyed our own T-shirts, had a “happy hour” in small groups each night to learn about the camp traditions, enjoyed a culminating Hawaiian-themed Banquet topped off with a dance performance in our final evening’s Show of Shows!
Mini Campers may be a tiny bit trepidatious when camp is new but there were many more tears upon departure than were evident upon arrival! These young ladies had a mini taste of the Magic of Alleghany and we hope to see them cross the river on the Barge and have them back at ‘Ghany for many summers to come!
Thank you so much for the trust you put in us to care for your precious girls!
“They’re mini campers! They’re real cool chicks. They’ll be coming back for their Term Camp fix!”
