Apply For — Or Give To — The Lantern Scholarship at ‘Ghany

As we approach camp’s 100th anniversary, I am grateful for the blessing of Camp Alleghany for Girls.

I am grateful campers are still spending their summers on the Greenbrier River, 100 years later.

I am grateful for Camp Alleghany’s traditions.

I am grateful for the independence, interpersonal skills, and maturity camp fosters in campers and counselors alike.

I am grateful for the opportunity to spend so much time outdoors.

I am grateful for ‘Ghany’s inclusivity and high standards of conduct.

I am grateful for the greater Alleghany community and its constant presence in my life.

Most of all, I am grateful for having had the opportunity to love Camp Alleghany for Girls. It is one of the most empowering, beneficial gifts my parents ever gave to me.

A Place for All Girls

I want all kinds of girls to have the opportunity to love camp. For this reason, I make monthly gifts to the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association‘s (CAAA) Lantern Scholarship Fund at the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation.

Last year, for the first time ever, the CAAA Lantern Scholarship Committee met one of its long-term goals to allocate scholarships to each of our scholarship applicants, thereby fulfilling CAAA’s mission to promote social, cultural, and economic diversity at Camp.

The CAAA Lantern Scholarship Committee could not make this happen without the support of the greater ‘Ghany community. Donating as little as $5 per month can have a big impact on CAAA’s ability to send girls to Camp Alleghany.

You can establish an ongoing monthly gift to the Lantern Scholarship Fund in one of two ways:

1. Go to the donate page at the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation and check out via PayPal, being sure to name “CAAA Lantern Scholarship” as the recipient. When you do so, choose the option to make your donation monthly.

OR

2. Email or call ‘Ghany alumnae Anne Bowling Tuckwiller (’97-’05), Executive Director of the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation.  Anne will assist you in setting up your monthly giving. Her email is info@gvfoundation.org and her direct line is 304-645-5620.

Interested in applying for the Lantern Scholarship?  Applications are due December 15, 2021.
