Welcome to The Year of ‘Ghany and Some Upcoming Events

Happy New Year (almost) 'Ghany Girls! We have some great upcoming events both virtual and in-person slated for the first couple of months of the year. Read today's blog for all the details.

December 28, 2021 By Elizabeth Shreckhise

I know it’s just a tad bit early to be wishing you a Happy New Year but…I wanted you to have time to put some save the dates on your calendar for January.

As you know, 2022 is the Year of ‘Ghany, our BIG 100th year celebration. So we’re kicking the year of with a bang with some fun virtual and in-person events and we hope you’ll be there (or pass the information on to interested families).

Virtual Open Houses

With a few spaces left in Mini Camp and Term Camp we want to make sure to connect with old families and new ones in the easiest way to give you the information you need about our 100th Summer and our programs in general. So we’re hosting some Virtual Open Houses in the first couple of months of the year. No need to leave the comfort of your home to find out all about camp (though we smile upon homemade s’mores for the occasion or milk & cookies if it’s easier!)

In these Zoom events you’ll meet some staff, watch a short video and presentation, and get a chance to ask your questions. We’ll send the Zoom link out by email, but if you’re not on our mailing list yet just email us for the link. Here are the dates:

• Sunday, January 9 at 4:00 p.m. – Mini Camp focused
• Tuesday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m. – General (both Mini and Term Camp)
• Wednesday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. – Mini Camp focused
• Sunday, February 13 at 4:00 p.m. – General (both Mini and Term Camp)

In-Person Reunions!

Let’s get together and see each other!

We’re hosting two outdoor events (weather-permitting) to enjoy company, roast s’mores, talk about camp, and just have fun! These are focused on new and returning campers. But we want to make sure you know to bring friends who are interested in camp, too. Folks who are interested in camp may want to meet some people or talk to the directors ahead of time and there’s more than enough time at these casual get-togethers to find out about camp, ask questions and check us out face-to-face! 🙂

If you come there are some little treats like…

  • 2021 campers will get their Yearbooks.
  • 2022 campers will get their 2022 100th Anniversary tee shirts.

For now please save the dates below, and more details will come soon such as timing and actual locations in these cities.

• Sunday, January 23 in Richmond, VA
• Sunday, January 30 in Washington, DC

These are scheduled for late January so please know that rain, snow, and/or significantly cold temperatures will postpone these events.

100th Anniversary Celebrations

And continue to check our 100th Anniversary website page for more upcoming events as we take the time this year to celebrate our 100th anniversary, all year long.

Happy New Year

To all our campers, camp families, staff, friends, alumni, and followers — have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve and a joyful and prosperous and healthy 2022!

Warmly,

Elizabeth Shreckhise, Director, Camp Alleghany for Girls
