Important Administrative Team News!

We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday season and that you’re gearing up for 2024 and all that’s in store. We’re counting down the days until summer, and in the next few weeks, registered families will receive more information regarding paperwork and other summertime logistics. In the meantime, we have some important administrative information to share with you all.

Personnel Changes

Our longtime Office Manager, Louise Dawson, has taken a new job and has stepped down from her Office Manager position with Alleghany. Louise worked tirelessly with us for over a decade, and we are beyond grateful for her years of hard work, dedication, loyalty, and service to Alleghany. It’s been a hard pill to swallow for all of us, but we celebrate her next steps and wish her the best!

Our former Administrative Assistant, Mary-Curtis Powell, is now our Office Manager, and we are thrilled she is joining our team in this position! We welcome her with open arms and are excited to work with her.

And Louise actually isn’t totally disappearing, she will be retaining the part-time role of Financial Manager for Alleghany and will remain behind the scenes on the business side of things.

Communication Changes

What does this mean for you all as camp families? Mainly communication. Most of you all will be familiar with Louise’s email address, Office@campalleghany.com. We ask that you discontinue using that email address, as it will only be used moving forward for financial and internal business purposes. 

The email address that will be used by Mary-Curtis for all other communication purposes is Info@campalleghany.com. This includes, but is not limited to, communication regarding:

  • Your ledger
  • Registration questions
  • General FAQs
  • Paperwork and Forms
  • Etc.

So please, if you have Office@campalleghany.com saved in your contacts, please change it now to Info@campalleghany.com.

 Mary-Curtis will also be the one answering our main phone line at 304.645.1316.

Elizabeth Shreckhise

Elizabeth is the Director of Camp Alleghany for Girls, the third generation member in her family to hold this position. But she also spent her childhood (ages 7-16) as 'Ghany camper, then held various counselor positions, and spent a decade here as the Assistant Director. She has a Masters in Education and Human Development and is a former School Counselor. Elizabeth lives in Staunton, Virginia during the "off-season" with her husband Matt and sons Mason, Ellis, and Noah. In addition to staffing, enrollment, program planning, outreach, and camp management duties, she helps keep the website current, writes and updates camp literature, and oversees the blog.
