As I sit here looking out over an empty Alleghany, I am reminded of all our Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers who filled our tents this summer. Thanks to you, we filled our Play Hall with songs and laughter; circled campfires telling stories and sharing memories; lit lanterns and fairy lights bringing Tent Row to life; shared countless meals with endless Dining Hall cheers. Summer 2023, we already miss you.

From the moment our counselors crossed the river in early June, we could tell this summer would be one for the books. L.O.L. Weekend volunteers helped us make Camp beautiful after a long winter. Then our fantastic staff of counselors learned all about how to Shine Bright, Like a Diamond with eager anticipation. This led to the arrival of our first campers of Summer 2023, Mother-Daughter Weekend, led by Ace and Mae Dandridge. MDW went off without a hitch and more ‘Ghany Girls discovered Alleghany for the very first time! Then came Mini Camp — this summer marked our new Mini Camp Director, Maggie Meyer’s very first summer in the role — there were nothing but smiles, tie-dyes, laughter, and joy all week long.
After what felt like months of anticipation, Term Camp began. Over 400 campers crossed the river on the Barge for First and Second Term! Tent Row was filled with joyful, determined, and passionate young women for the next 6 weeks. We could not have asked for a better group of ‘Ghany Girls to share our summer with.
Last but not least our Family Campers arrived and while they might be our last group of Campers each season, their energy and excitement made it feel like the very first week of the summer. We welcomed old and new faces with the help of our wonderful and hard-working Family Camp Staff made up of Alumni and Term Counselors. They made this week relaxing and enjoyable for everybody who crossed the river!
Without the help of our amazing Green Team, Support Staff, Chefs, Kitchen Staff and Housekeeping Staff, Camp Alleghany would never have been able to run this summer. They worked tirelessly to make sure everyone was fed and had what they needed; some even stayed after Camp ended to make sure Alleghany was properly closed down for the off-season!

Summer 2023 was truly one to remember and it could not have happened without all of our dedicated and talented Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers so THANK YOU for all that you do to enrich our Camp Community. We miss you and are already looking forward to singing the Welcome Song to you next summer. We thank you so much for Summer 2023!
