Embarking on a summer camp journey can be a nerve-wracking experience for anyone, regardless of their ages. The fear of the unknown, the anxiety of fitting in, and the apprehension of stepping into an established community can be particularly daunting. At Camp Alleghany, however, we celebrate the diversity of our campers, and we welcome newcomers with open arms across all age groups, from 8 to 16.
All Ages!
For our youngest ‘Ghany Girls, the Junior Campers aged 8-12, the excitement of joining a new group is coupled with the joy of making lifelong friends. These campers are at the heart of the Alleghany spirit, learning the ropes of camp life and forming bonds that extend far beyond the summer months. The welcoming atmosphere ensures that every new face is greeted with warmth, making the transition into camp life a seamless and enjoyable experience.
Even the Start-ups, our energetic 12-year-olds, quickly find a home at Camp Alleghany. It’s not uncommon for campers at this age to feel a bit hesitant about being the “new kid on the block.” However, our dedicated staff and supportive community make sure that these Start-ups quickly feel like they’ve been part of the Alleghany family from the very beginning.
Navigating the Midways at the age of 13 may seem like a challenging task for some, but at Camp Alleghany, we understand the unique concerns that arise with this age and stage. Newcomers to this age group discover that the camaraderie built at camp is strong enough to overcome any initial fears. The Midways, with their blend of youthful energy and emerging maturity, create an environment where everyone feels included. As our Midways are the youngest girls in Senior Camp, each of them, regardless of years at Alleghany, are welcomed into a new and exciting chapter,
As our campers turn 14, they become UpStarts, facing the prospect of joining a group that may have established connections over the years. At Camp Alleghany, we recognize the importance of fostering a sense of belonging for every UpStart whether brand new or a seasoned ‘Ghany Girl. New friendships are formed effortlessly, and the supportive nature of the community ensures that every camper feels valued and appreciated.
For those aged 16, the Leaders in Training, stepping into a leadership role can be both exciting and intimidating. At Camp Alleghany, we embrace the growth and development of our young leaders, providing an environment where they can thrive. The transition into a leadership position is made smoother by the unwavering support of the camp community, enabling LITs to excel and become role models for their peers. Our LITs are a group of campers both old and new, often these campers are meeting for the first time as many have never attended the same term before!
Jump Right In!
While starting a camp journey may seem particularly scary as campers get older, Camp Alleghany defies this stereotype. With an inclusive and supportive community, we witness brand new campers joining us each summer across all age groups. The bonds formed at Camp Alleghany are not limited by age but rather strengthened by the shared experiences and traditions that make our camp truly special.
So, whether you’re 8 or 16, Camp Alleghany welcomes you with open arms, ready to make your summer an unforgettable adventure filled with friendship, growth, and the joy of being a part of something truly extraordinary.
