Mother Daughter Weekend 2022, a Recap

What is this camp that they speak of so?

Of friendships that generations sow

Of summers spent away from home,

Shooting her way out of prone

Of cool nights after Taps has blown

And the wondrous ways the girl has grown

Of comfort zones she left behind

While the river beside her winds

I wonder if I could see

Just a glimpse of this place, ‘Ghany?

You see, my daughter seems so small

Can she handle leaving home?  Can she call?

Is Mother Daughter Weekend Right for your Daughter?

Does this poem resonate with you?  Are you wondering about the magic of Alleghany and whether your daughter would enjoy the experience? If so, we hope that you will make plans to join us for the Mother Daughter Weekend in June 2023!

MDW 2022, We Miss You!

This past summer marked the 4th annual MDW and the 100th Anniversary of Camp Alleghany, and we had a fantastic time together. After some ice-breaking activities upon arrival on Friday afternoon and dinner in the Dining Hall, the Mother-Daughter teams were grouped for a wacky scavenger hunt designed to acquaint the girls and their moms (aunts/grandmothers) with the locations of important buildings/sites within the camp. And no evening activity at camp is complete without Milk and Cookies! After Taps, we were treated to a special serenade by the Term Camp counselors under a starry night’s sky.

A full slate of activities was on tap for Saturday.  All of the girls were able to get a taste of the activities that are available throughout the summer and meet the Term Camp counselors who provided instruction!  A highlight was seeing the dance routine that even moms and grandmothers could master to the delight of the girls!

We had a perfectly beautiful night for our campfire on Saturday evening, complete with a NAM (Nature Appreciation Moment) when a bald eagle flew over us as the sun was setting behind the mountains.  That could only be topped off by s’mores in lieu of Milk and Cookies to conclude the evening!

Sunday morning always comes quickly during MDW, but warm cinnamon buns awaited us in the kitchen and helped us ward off the chill of the cool mountain morning.  Sadly, it was time to say “Cheerio,” but we truly hope you will be back soon!
