2023 is winding down and in just a few days we’ll be saying Happy New Year! to our friends and family. What are some things you can expect in the new year from Alleghany? Read below!
Family Programming Registrations Open
Mark your calendars because both of our family-based programs open up early in the New Year! Mother-Daughter Weekend registration opens January 15 and has a one-month early bird pricing timeframe. This session fills up quickly so you’ll want to reserve your spot right when it opens! Mother-Daughter Weekend is a popular weekend program where prospective campers can come enjoy a taste of Alleghany with their mom (or grandmother, aunt, godmother, special female friend) right by their side. It’s a great way to see what Alleghany is all about without having to be separated quite yet from an adult. This year Mother-Daughter Weekend falls on June 14-16. If you or someone you know is interested in this program, be sure to act quickly because again this fills up fast!
Our popular Family Camp program’s registration also opens up in the new year on February 1. This week-long session for all ages and genders takes place August 4-11 this year. You can choose to spend the full week or just a portion of the week with us. Family Camp is a great way to experience Alleghany with the whole family, and enjoy relaxing in the mountain air, swimming in the river, hiking, crafting, trying Archery, and much more. Read more about this wonderful week at Alleghany and get those registrations in!
Virtual Open Houses
For our Mini and Term Camp families, we will hold a few more Virtual Open Houses in the new year. These are opportunities to meet some of our staff and campers, learn more about Alleghany and what to expect, and ask questions! They are designed for both prospective campers as well as campers who are already registered and would love more information. Stay tuned for those dates and times!
Website Redesign!
Something new and exciting happening on our end is a new website design. We received a lot of constructive feedback about how our website was organized, and we listened! Director of Marketing and Leadership Cami Bresee has spent many hours this fall working diligently to create a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing website, and we’re sure you’re going to love it!
Counselor Hiring Announcements
Believe it or not, hiring for next summer begins almost as soon as we get home from camp in the fall! Program Director Stephanie Astley has been working extremely hard over the past few months to begin securing our 2024 counseling staff, and we’re very excited to share those counselors with you over the coming weeks in staff hiring announcements on social media. Get excited and stay tuned for those coming your way!
Personnel Changes
We do have a few significant personnel changes taking place in the new year, and we will make sure to send out further communication about this so that everyone is on the same page. First, our Office Manager, Louise Dawson, is retiring as Office Manager, and our Administrative Assistant, Mary-Curtis Powell, will be taking over that role. For the time being, Louise will remain our Financial Manager, but all parent communication and inquiries should be directed to Mary-Curtis at [email protected]. (The email address [email protected] will be reserved exclusively for financial matters, vendors, and internal business communications). We wish Louise all the best and welcome Mary-Curtis into this new role!
Additionally, our longtime Store Manager Ruth Reitz is also retiring from her role at Alleghany, leaving big shoes to fill! Ruth joined us as Store Manager over 10 years ago and has worked hard to build our camp store up to what it is today. But don’t worry! Our Store will still be stocked with new and amazing merchandise come summer.
Kitchen Remodel
Our Alleghany kitchen is getting a remodel! Our Site Manager Garrett O’Dell’s construction company, GO2 Builders, will begin this project in the new year. A portion of the kitchen floor needs to be replaced, which prompted a redesign of about half of the kitchen. While most campers and staff won’t see this exciting project when it’s finalized, they can be sure it will have a very positive effect on one of the most important areas of camp. We’re sure the kitchen staff and chefs will be thrilled with the changes, and we’re excited to see it take shape.
Registration is Filling Up!
As a closing note, I will just let you all know that registration for Mini and Term Camps filled up faster than we imagined this year, and spaces are very limited at this time! Mini Camp is over 50% full, 1st Term is about 80% full, and 2nd term is over 80% full! Additionally, our Leaders-In-Training program has the most registrations we’ve ever had in the history of the LIT program. As you think about and plan for your summer, be sure to act quickly to register to avoid getting on the waitlist.
We’re so excited for what 2024 holds, and we can’t wait for summer. The countdown has begun! Until then, we’re wishing you and your family a healthy and happy New Year from all of us at Alleghany.
