Camp Spirit
Year after year new campers come to Alleghany and old campers return. What is it that makes Alleghany so dear to campers and counselors, old and new? It is that intangible camp spirit which is so often talked of–that camp spirit which is seen in friendly smiles and kindly words, shouts of joy at renewing acquaintances when camp begins, campfires with unified singing, and abundant enthusiasm for all phases of camp life. From this, we see that it is the people, the Alleghanyites, who really make the camp. Without these people, Alleghany is only a shell. As in an egg, the shell can only serve its purpose well when the inside parts of the egg function properly, we at Alleghany are the inner parts of the shell. It is only when we are brought closer together through friendship and fun that camp spirit is apparent. This camp spirit is the life produced from the egg. How well this life prevails makes the difference between a good egg and a bad egg, and between a good camp and a bad camp. Camp Alleghany, in my opinion, is definitely a good camp. There is much spirit here. Throughout the years each camper or counselor who has come here has given something to Ghany.
This something, whether large or small, helps us each to come to love camp and keeps our camp spirit at its highest peak.
