Hi Everybody!
Some of you may know me as I have spent 15 summers at Alleghany as a camper and counselor and nearly my entire life as a family camper. Still, for those of you who don’t know me I am thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce myself and talk about my new role as a member of the Alleghany Admin Team.
What do I do?
My official title is Director of Marketing and Leadership, and this title encompasses a wide variety of responsibilities. One of my main focuses is communicating Camp Alleghany’s mission and values to the world through our website, social media pages, and communication efforts. This means I am the person updating the website to make sure you all have access to the most current information about Alleghany, brainstorming blog ideas, editing and posting pictures and videos, and creating graphics and designs for digital and print materials sent out by our office.
During the summer I am a part of our Photography Team to make sure we have plenty of fun photos to share with parents during the summer and to post on social media and our website throughout the off-season.
You may be thinking, what does any of that have to do with leadership? Well, that is where the other part of my job comes into play. We all wear many hats at Alleghany!
During the summer, we have Leadership Programs that our campers participate in from the age of 12-16 and continue through their first year as counselors. These programs include team building on our Ropes Course, community service projects, shadowing experiences, and even wilderness trips!
Our Startups are the youngest group to participate in our leadership programs at age 12! Each summer following, our campers get to experience and participate in more frequent and more challenging leadership exercises and experiences. Midways, Upstarts, LITs (Leaders in Training), and JCs (Junior Counselors) all participate in a unique and tailored leadership experience that is planned for their individual growth. It is my job to plan these curriculums and train the counselors who lead these campers through the program.
Although this all sounds serious, it is designed to be fun, it is summer camp after all. I do all of the boring parts and leave the fun for the campers!
Quick Facts
Now onto me! I grew up in Williamsburg, VA, and now live in Richmond. I went to college at the University of Miami (the real Miami, in Florida) where I studied Creative Advertising, Marketing, and Art. I am a third generation ‘Ghany Girl and a proud member of the Gray Team (Go Gray). I was a camper for 8 years, a counselor for 3, a support staff member, and now an Admin Team member. I have been in this role for several months and I can’t wait to spend another summer at Alleghany!
That’s Me!
I hope this gave you a glimpse into what I do for Alleghany throughout the year and during the summer and let you get to know me a little bit better! To see more of what I do go check out our social media platforms and read more of our blogs!
