Greetings Camp Families,
As the school days are quickly coming to a close, I am excitedly reminded that camp is right around the corner! Every year at about this time, each time we see one another, a former coworker and I shout out the number of days remaining until we will both be back at our respective camps. For me, today marks 45 days until I cross the river!
As the chairperson, I am pleased to announce that this year marks the 10th year of “Ghany We Will Give,” where ‘Ghany gives back to the Greenbrier County community for their years of hospitality. Since the program’s inception, we have collected everything from feminine hygiene products to canned food to animal care items for organizations such as the Family Refuge Center, Community in Schools, and Greenbrier Humane Society, to name a few.
This year we are taking a service learning approach that will be more of a “hands on” experience for all campers and counselors. We are very excited to be partnering with the Seasons Place, an Inspirit senior living community located in Lewisburg. We are pleased to be focusing on a group of individuals who we have not yet serviced through ‘Ghany We Will Give, and know that our campers will bring joy and light to the individuals living at the Seasons.
This summer we are asking families to pack a few simple “card making” supplies into their campers’ trunks (a few sheets of construction paper, washi tape, a few stickers, colored pencils, etc). We will also have supplies on hand. We are only expecting each camper to bring enough supplies for their own card. During each camp session at a designated time, every camper will make a card for a member of the Seasons. The Leaders-In-Training will then have the pleasure of delivering the cards and spending an afternoon with the Seasons’ residents during Second Term as their annual out-of-camp community service project. During their visit, they will also socialize, play games, and sing Campfire songs to spread some joy to this community.
As a native of Lewisburg, there is nowhere I love more than home. Please know that ‘Ghany We Will Give has made a huge impact on the individuals and children in Greenbrier County.
