Get Ready for Mother-Daughter Weekend 2025!

2025 is here, and with it comes the excitement of registration for our beloved Mother-Daughter Weekend! Mark your calendars—registration opens on January 15, so don’t miss your chance to secure a spot for this unforgettable experience!

What is Mother-Daughter Weekend?

Mother-Daughter Weekend is a fun-filled on-site introduction to Camp Alleghany for Girls for prospective campers and camp moms (or other female family members). Prospective first-time campers are girls ages 6-10 who’ve never been to ‘Ghany before. The would-be camper is curious about coming to be a camper and is asking mom to try it out! Or, moms are taking the lead — you’ve heard about camp and think this would be a good way to introduce camp to your daughter(s).

The camper can be the sister of a current camper, or the daughter/niece of an alum mom, but the prospective camper themselves must not have come to camp already prior to attending Mother-Daughter Weekend.

Among mother-daughter pairs who register, additional female family members are welcome — siblings or cousins may join as long as they are in the 6-10 age range. Extra female adults may attend as well, such as a grandmother or aunt — it’s a girls’ weekend! 😀.

Moms and daughters will immerse themselves in our traditional camp schedule—starting with morning flag raising, tidying up for Tent Inspection, participating in daily activities, shopping at the camp store, enjoying Shower Hour and Rest Hour, and so much more. The goal is to help prospective campers get familiar with life at ‘Ghany, from living in a tent to experiencing our full daily routine—all while having fun and making memories with mom by their side. It’s the perfect way to ease the transition to becoming a full-fledged Mini or Term Camper!

Updates to Our Policies and Eligibility

As we prepare for our 6th season of Mother-Daughter Weekend, we’re reflecting on all we’ve learned along the way. Over the years, we’ve made thoughtful adjustments based on participant surveys, staff feedback, our professional development, and hands-on experience. Our goal is to continually enhance the weekend, ensuring it’s a positive, memorable experience for all involved.

Each fall, our team comes together to review surveys, analyze feedback, and discuss what worked well and what could use improvement. We hold full-team meetings and smaller breakout sessions to dive into the details (I just had a Zoom call with co-heads of MDW, Ace and Mae the other night!). After gathering and discussing all the data, we’re ready to implement changes that will strengthen the program and make it even better.

Here are the updates for this year:

  1. Updated Age Range
Starting this year, participants must be at least 6 years old and have completed Kindergarten to attend Mother-Daughter Weekend. The upper age limit will remain at 10 years old (completed 4th grade). While we’ve cherished the energy and enthusiasm of our 5-year-old participants in the past, we’ve observed that many have struggled with stamina and keeping up with the weekend’s activities. To ensure the best possible experience for all campers, we’ve adjusted the age range to 6–10.
  2. Two-Summer Attendance Limit for Campers
Campers (daughters) will now be eligible to attend Mother-Daughter Weekend for a maximum of two summers. However, mothers or adult guardians are welcome to return with different or additional children. In our experience, after two summers, most campers are ready to transition into Mini or Term Camp without needing a parent by their side. Additionally, this change will help us accommodate more families, as Mother-Daughter Weekend often has a waitlist.
  3. Eligibility for Prospective Campers Only
While this isn’t a new policy, we want to reiterate that campers who have attended Mini or Term Camp are no longer eligible to return to Mother-Daughter Weekend. This program is designed specifically for prospective campers and their mothers/adult guardians, offering a unique introduction to camp life.
