Goodbye Summer 2022
Our Summer 2022 season has officially come to a close, and as I sit here looking out over an empty Alleghany I am reminded of all our Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers who filled our tents this summer. Thanks to you, we filled our Play Hall with songs and laughter, circled campfires telling stories and sharing memories, lit our lanterns and fairy lights bringing Tent Row to life, and shared countless meals with pancake tosses and Dining Hall cheers.
Thank you to our Counselors, Campers, and Staff!
From the moment our counselors crossed the river in early June we could tell this summer would be one for the books. Our season started with generous L.O.L. (Labor of Love) Weekend volunteers helping us make Camp beautiful after a long winter. Then our amazing staff of counselors continued with Staff Training and learned all about the Magic of Camp Alleghany with eager anticipation. This led up to the arrival of our first campers of 2022, Mother-Daughter Weekend. Led by Ace and Mae Dandridge, MDW went off without a hitch, and lots more ‘Ghany Girls discovered the magic for the very first time! Then came Mini Camp – its 20th Anniversary and our long-time Mini Camp Director BA’s last summer in this role – there were nothing but smiles, tie-dye, laughter, and joy all week long.
After what felt like months of anticipation, Term Camp began, and over 400 campers crossed the river on the Barge for First and Second Term! Tent Row was filled for the next 6 weeks with joyful, determined and passionate campers, counselors, and LITs (Leaders-in-Training). We could not have asked for a better group of young women to share our summer with.
Last but not least our Family Campers arrived and while they might be our last group of Campers each season, their energy and excitement made it feel like the very first week of the summer. While we celebrated our 100th anniversary all summer long, the big celebration bash took place during Family Camp. With the help of the 100th Anniversary Committee, Family Camp Staff, the Administrative Team and the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association we hosted over 400 guests to celebrate 100 years of Camp Alleghany!
Of course, none of this could have happened without our amazing Support Staff, Chefs, Kitchen Staff, Housekeeping Staff and Green Team. They worked tirelessly all summer to make sure everyone had what they needed, was happily fed, and our facilities were safe and clean. Some even stayed several days after Camp ended to make sure Alleghany was properly closed down for the off-season.
We will miss you and cannot wait to see you next summer!
This summer was truly one to remember and it could not have happened without all of our dedicated and talented Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers so THANK YOU for all that you do to enrich our Camp Community. We miss you and are already looking forward to singing the Welcome Song to you next summer. We thank you so much for Summer 2022!
