As I sit here looking out over the quiet and empty grounds of Camp Alleghany, I am filled with fond memories of the vibrant life our Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers brought to our tents this past summer. Thanks to you, our Play Hall echoed with songs and laughter; our campfires glowed with shared stories and beautiful songs; our Tent Row sparkled with lanterns and fairy lights; and our Dining Hall filled with cheers over countless delicious meals.

From the moment our counselors crossed the river in early June, it was clear that this summer would be unforgettable. Our L.O.L. Weekend volunteers worked tirelessly to make Camp beautiful after the long winter. Our incredible team of counselors embraced the theme “Grow Through What You Go Through” with joy and excitement, setting the stage for an extraordinary season. This led to the arrival of our first campers of 2024 during Mother-Daughter Weekend, led by Ace and Mae Dandridge. The weekend was a seamless success, with many new ‘Ghany Girls discovering the magic of Alleghany for the very first time.
Next came Mini Camp, with Mini Camp Director Maggie Meyer and her wonderful Mini Camp Counselors. Her leadership brought endless smiles, vibrant tie-dye, laughter, and joy to the week. Maggie’s enthusiasm and dedication set the tone for a summer filled with unforgettable moments.
The anticipation culminated in the beginning of Term Camp. Over 400 campers crossed the river on the Barge for First and Second Term! Tent Row buzzed with the energy of joyful, determined, and passionate young women for the next six weeks. We couldn’t have asked for a more incredible group of ‘Ghany Girls to share our summer with.
Finally, our Family Campers arrived, closing out the season with a burst of excitement and enthusiasm that made it feel like the first week all over again. With the support of our wonderful and hardworking Heads of Family Camp, Courtney and Landon, along with their Family Camp Staff, composed of Alumni and Term Counselors, we welcomed both familiar and new faces, ensuring a relaxing and enjoyable week for everyone who crossed the river.
Our amazing Support Staff, Green Team, Chefs, Kitchen Staff, and Housekeeping Staff were the unsung heroes of the summer, working tirelessly to keep everyone fed and comfortable. Some even stayed beyond the summer’s end to ensure that Alleghany was properly closed down for the off-season.

This summer was truly one to remember, and it could not have happened without the dedication and talent of our Campers, Counselors, Staff, and Volunteers.
