TBT: The Alleghany Rattler February 1931: Camp Movies

Editor’s Note:  As part of our year-long celebration of our 100th Year Anniversary (1922-2022), we’ll post a Throwback Thursday edition of our Alleghany Rattler Newspaper to give you a peek into life at camp across those 100 summers!

In this piece we see that camp embraced technology early and made it a treat as part of camp life.

Camp Movies

All Alleghanyites will probably be interested in learning that moving pictures of various activities at Camp Alleghany are now available for such local groups as may wish to see them. The Camp Office has just purchased a small projector and six or eight reels are already available. It is hoped that the office may secure by correspondence several other reels which have been taken at camp. Dr. Voshel and Dr. Middleburg took those pictures which we have two years ago. Mr. Frailey will doubtless send us some others when he learns that we can now use them.

The new projector, together with the films, may be easily forwarded by parcel post in a small carton. So if you wish to see yourself or your friends in camp movies, telephone your local counselor, have her arrange for a meeting of the local group, and both films and projector will be sent out. Won’t this be fun for the annual Alleghany reunions in the spring? Please remember in this connection that the pictures cannot be in two places at the same time. So put in your request early, and we here at the office will do our best to send you the pictures at the time most convenient to you.
