Never think that camp is over just because summer is over…until next summer, that is!
Instead, think of the off season as a time to connect with us in a different way. For example, we definitely encourage you to follow the blog (see the free subscribe link on the top right hand of this screen), and follow our news and announcements on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | and Pinterest.
AND most of all..plan to see us in person!
What follows is a partial list of upcoming events this fall and winter (we’ll add more as they come up), that give you an opportunity to connect with us through reunions and to introduce your friends and family to Camp Alleghany for Girls at recruiting parties.
Because we’ve got a wonderful crew of current camp families who like to share their love of Alleghany, they are our recruiting party hosts in a variety of locations across the region. We’re so grateful to them, and love getting out to their locations to catch up with them and meet their party guests. (And if you’re interested in learning about hosting a party, please contact me for details. There are some potential benefits to you, and it’s fun!)
As a quick update on some of these upcoming parties, here is what we currently have planned, including one this weekend!
- 10/28: Baltimore, Maryland (Lutherville area)*.
- 11/12: Arlington, Virginia.
- 1/21/17: Charlottesville, Virginia (date is tentative, we will keep you updated).
- 1/28/17: Alexandria, Virginia (date is tentative, we will keep you updated).
- TBD: Glen Allen/Richmond area.
- And more plans in the works!
And What Happens…at the parties
At each of these in-home recruiting parties, guests (parents and kids) basically come and learn all about Alleghany. They’ll meet some current campers, ask questions of current families, watch our video(s), and (in most cases) meet me (Assistant Director Elizabeth Shreckhise).
Usually some kind of refreshment is served, the kids get a chance to play a bit, and on occasion do a craft or some quick activity. These events are focused but casual, friendly and informative!
And if you live in these areas, it’s a great opportunity for you, too, to connect with the host and invite some would-be campers and their parents to attend. As a reminder, for our next two parties in Baltimore and Arlington, which are within the Early Bird Special registration deadline, new registrants can get the discount if they register at these parties (or by December 1, 2017). Best of all, this applies to Mini Camp this year, too!
Let’s Get Together and Feel Alright!
In addition to our round of fun recruiting parties, we’re planning several camp reunions around Virginia and Maryland this season! (We may even have them in other areas, so please follow us for news and updates).
This season our reunions will mostly be located at ice cream shops. The idea is to stop in to see your ‘Ghany friends (and we get to see YOU!) and get an ice cream cone on us!
Any camper who’s currently registered for Summer 2018, and who comes to the Ice Cream Socials, will get to immediately pick up our annual tee — the 2018 tee shirt — fabulously designed by our 2017 Full-Term Fifteens, Virginia Chandler and Jessie Scott (it’s the tee pictured in this blog post). The kicker being that you get the tee now, instead of having to wait until next summer!
AND…if you come to the Ice Cream Social AND bring a friend who may be interested in camp, you’ll also receive a second exclusive gift to thank you for your introduction!
If any of your guests’ parents want to, they can register their daughter(s) for camp right then and there! (and of course, then receive the 2018 tee shirt!)
But most important of all, ANY camp alum, young and old, and their families and friends, and even someone who comes on their own because they heard about camp, can come and get ice cream on us — these reunion Ice Cream Socials are not limited to just those who are registered for next summer. Now, there are perks to being registered — picking up the free tee early — but we want to see everyone and their friends, registered or not, current camper or past camper!
The more ice cream the merrier, right?
As for our reunions, please stay tuned for the dates and times and follow us on social media to see when and where we’ll be.
And never fear — if you don’t live near one of these reunions, you’ll still get the free tee shirt when you arrive at camp!
We hope to see you (and to hear from you if you want to host a party, or if you want to invite certain guests to one of the planned parties. Just let me know!
— Elizabeth Dawson Shreckhise, Assistant Director, Camp Alleghany for Girls
