It never ceases to amaze me just how much Camp Alleghany touches the lives of our campers, counselors, alum, and friends.
People do some wonderful things with their love for ‘Ghany, from making quilts to trekking across the country to come back and see camp, from arranging off-season reunions with dear camp friends, to making art pieces as a remembrance of camp…and more!
A particularly common theme is students who write essays or do other school projects with camp at the heart of the work. Which brings me to today’s blog and one camper’s need for your help in contributing to a fun school assignment for her.
Whether you know Francesca or not (she’ll be in her 8th summer at Camp Alleghany this year), she’s a ‘Ghany Girl who wants to connect with you!
She wrote to me and said,
Earlier this week my religion class was assigned a project on something I am passionate about, so I chose camp. For this project I’ve decided to make a video of camp friends telling me their favorite camp tradition. I was wondering if you and whomever else is around would like to help me by sending me a short video telling me what your favorite camp tradition is?
I plan to compile all the videos that I receive into a movie which will hopefully highlight the joy that camp brings to so many current and former campers! Once its finished, I promise to send it back to you for all to see! The videos should be 35 to 45 seconds long and I’m collecting them until March 2nd. I hope you have a nice evening. Thanks so much!
Who could resist that?
And in the age of iPhones and e-mails, it would be so easy for the ‘Ghany Universe to send short video files to Francesca via her e-mail address.
Just think — she could get videos from young campers and wizened alum, from Green-Teamers new and old, from people close to where she lives and from all the way across the world (wouldn’t it be fun to see who sends one from the furthest away?). She could get them from staff, Junior Counselors, Junior Campers, Senior Campers…and me!
I hope you’ll all join in the spirit and do a short video — feel free to be as creative and expressive as we know ‘Ghany Girls can be — and send it to her. And I hope when she’s done we can feature her video right here on the blog! So put on your filmmaking cap — and shoot!*

*PS: Francesca also said this: “This will be my 8th summer at camp, and camp is the best part of my summer! While I’m sad that this is my last year as a camper, I couldn’t be more excited to see all my friends, compete in Blue/Gray competitions, and other fun evening activities.”
