In some ways this is one of my favorite parts of the camp year. Since we’re not actually at camp, it obviously isn’t my actual favorite part, but it comes close.
Why? A few reasons.
Who Will Our Campers Be?
I love our Early Bird Registration time because it’s exciting to see those early registrations come in — it’s clear that a lot of families want to secure their next summer plans and ensure their daughter’s place at camp. And that means we start to see our enrollment take shape.
I see returning names that I recognize and I picture that camper in my mind, excited to think she’ll be with us again next summer! How will she have grown? What will she want to do differently this summer? What program will she be in now? Isn’t this her 6th year? And it’s her 4th! Remember how she did that dance this summer? Or decided to pick up trash and “help out?” Or that lovely card she made for her counselor?
And then new names appear in Early Bird registration, too…girls that I’m so excited to get to know. What activities will she take? Which tent will we put her in? What will she feel crossing the barge for the first time? What will her first night be like drifting into dreamland to the chirping of the crickets under the glow of the moon?
During this time Summer 2017 seems like a distant event on a far away horizon. But I know too well after years of summer camp enrollment that before you know it, summer is here. And there’s nothing worse than having no plans and hoping to secure a plan on the fly. And maybe worse than that? Camp filling up and no spot for your camper! If you register now, you can beat all of that!
Early Bird Registration
Early Bird registration serves two important functions.
On the one hand, it let’s you do vacation planning and start to get summer logistics in motion. With school dates, family events, one kid going here and another going there, it’s nice to pin down details as soon as possible, especially if it lets you lock in the best rates.
That brings us to the other hand: Planning early gives Term Camp families a substantial discount off of our regular Term Camp prices — a savings of over $300 for one Term and over $500 for Full Term!
While we don’t have an Early Bird rate for our very popular but shorter Mini Camp, it’s still nice to secure your spot, know your dates, and add your plans to the calendar now.
I can’t wait until next summer. My newborn will be a bouncing nine-month-old by summer — aware enough to take in the beauty of the surrounding forests and mountains, alert enough to hear the lapping of the Greenbrier River, curious enough to wonder at dandelions or perk up when seeing an arrow hit its target.
While he’s taking in the wonder of camp with his brothers to lead the way, he’ll be surrounded by a bevy of girls and women who also call Camp Alleghany for Girls their summer home. Will your camper be one?
Register today and we hope to see you sooner than you can believe!
