Spotlight on Louise, our Office Manager

A short interview with family member and administration team member Louise Dawson, our office manager.

Editor’s Note: As part of our blog’s Spotlight Series, this week we’re inviting you to get to know our Office Manager (and my sister-in-law), Louise Dawson, a little better through this short interview.

What does the Office Manager at Camp Alleghany do in the winter months and what during term camp?

I handle a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff: payroll, bills, taxes and  reporting, budgeting and planning, etc.

Leading up to the summer I arrange many of camp’s logistics and order the supplies we need for camp so that the summer runs smoothly.

Most of all, I communicate with parents regarding their questions about tuition payments, camper registration, health forms, and more.

During the summer, I’m the one who answers the phone in the office, so I get to talk to a lot of parents. 🙂

How many years were you a camper and what was your favorite part of camp as a camper?

I was a camper for eight summers and a counselor for five. I always loved getting in the river. Canoeing was my favorite activity to take and to teach.

When you don’t have your camp hat on, what are your hobbies and interests and pastimes?

I love to spend time with my family and friends, exercise and spend time outdoors. And I love all things tennis!

Since you have your baby daughter at camp with you, when she’s not with her nanny, what do you like to share with her about camp?

I love that she’s getting familiar with the sights and sounds of camp, like Crystal Creek babbling after a storm, campers singing, the dinner bell, or the bugle calls throughout the day. I also love taking her swimming in the river! I’m going to get her in a canoe soon, I hope.

I think the burning question on everyone’s mind is, Tell us about the old days when a budding romance with Green Teamer and ‘Ghany legacy Cooper Dawson took place — and did you have a camp-themed wedding?

Haha!

Not too much to tell — we just hit it off one summer and things stuck.

No, we didn’t have a camp-themed wedding, but we had lots of good camp friends there (even Miss Hazel!)

Cooper did propose on the barge (to my surprise!) so that was nice and camp-tastic.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our lovely Office Manager’s routine and life. We sure enjoying having her in the family and on the Camp Alleghany Team!
