My youngest daughter Bennett is no stranger to Camp Alleghany. She’s been going to Family Camp for three years, and has been patiently awaiting her time in the “sun.”
This summer she’s finally, at age 7, ready to come to Camp Alleghany’s Mini-Camp. It’s an understatement to say she can’t wait! We’ve been counting down the days for a while now.
Her younger brother, Hutch, is not a happy camper that ‘Ghany’s Mini Camp doesn’t allow boys! “How rude”, he says. But, there’s still that Family Camp for him!
On Monday, we went to Target to do some shopping for Bennett. It had to be “just the two of us.” Girls time, you know?
We walked the aisles, looking at our list, debating over every choice. It did take us a while, and, admittedly, mom was starting to lose some patience. But, finally, everything was picked out from shoes to blankets to flashlights to water bottles and insect repellent.
When we got home, Bennett laid out all her new camp supplies. We wrote her name on everything with a sharpie. Then we took some of the new clothes and sheets to the laundry room to clean them. The whole time we talked about the things she can’t wait to do: Having Hazel’s food in the dining hall (yummy), trying to catch guppies in the water (“Do you think I can bring some home?”), going to arts and crafts, and hopefully putting on a dancing show.
Bennett wondered how she was going tie dye her shirt to match B.A.’s, and will they have cookies and milk every night?
What about fireworks like at Family Camp?
So many questions. So much excitement. We can’t wait for the fun to begin on Sunday.
