In a normal year I’m SO EXCITED for Mini Camp each year that I can hardly endure the wait! So imagine how I’m feeling now after Mini Camp was cancelled last summer? You can bet that I’m counting down to Mini Camp 2021…Every. Single. Day! (As of this writing that would be 258 days ’til Opening Day!)
And one of the most fun things about Mini Camp is that its staff of counselors are all Camp Alleghany for Girls alumnae. That intergenerational structure makes this such a rich, multi-layered experience for young and old!
And what if YOU were to join us?
Take Me Home, Country Roads
Recall your own fond memories of summers spent at Alleghany? Warm days, cool nights, the Greenbrier River flowing, and the Alleghany Mountains standing tall around you, and the joy of camp friendship in a spirit of camaraderie and fun!
The great news is that you can relive those camp memories and experiences while introducing our youngest campers to their first time at ‘Ghany.
From June 20 to June 26, 2021, Mini Camp will enjoy its 19th summer of welcoming these wide-eyed new campers as they step off of The Barge and into the Magic of Camp Alleghany.
And Mini Camp Counselors get a little extra time here to enjoy it all. You’ll arrive on June 18th to help prepare the way for these campers and to learn the ropes through our staff training. Of course, this also means many fun bonding experiences for us as a team in good old ‘Ghany style!
Wouldn’t you love to live on Tent Row again, immersed in your own camp reverie, while leading campers (rising first graders through rising fifth graders) through a one-week “mini” version of all that camp has to offer?
As a Mini Camp Counselor, you live in a tent with “your” three-to-four campers — you’re their counselor! This means being responsible for the general well-being of those specific campers, guiding them in tent life, and eating in the Dining Hall with them at “your table.”
You’ll also help lead Evening Activities with all Mini Campers.
While Mini Campers spend the day attending their morning and afternoon activities with our younger summer staff counselors, the Mini Camp Counselors have downtime during which you can enjoy the many benefits of being in your favorite outdoor summer space — the river, the hiking trails, just relaxing on the grounds, it’s all there for you.
If you have camp counseling experience at Alleghany, are 28-years-old or more, and wish to be considered for Mini Camp staff positions which may be available for next summer please contact me to apply. We do hire more Mini Camp Counselors after January 2nd, but only after we give our former Mini Camp Counselors, who are already experienced in our process, first dibs on openings.
Interested alumnae will be recorded on a wait list in the order in which their inquiry is received. A phone or a Zoom interview with me, your Mini Camp Director, will take place in January for those who may be tapped from the waitlist.
And if you’ve been a Mini Camp Counselor already and want to return? Please let us know! We just need your commitment to Summer 2021 by January 1st, after which we’ll begin considering new alumnae applicants.
Whether you’re wanting to come back as a Mini Camp Counselor, or applying for your first time, please address any questions or direct inquiries to me via e-mail.
In the meantime join me in counting down the days to the best summer ever!
