Just a quick word to all our ‘Ghany Girls — whether campers, staff, or alumnae — and to camp parents and guardians, all our vendors and suppliers, and friends, to wish you a most wonderful Christmas filled with joy, togetherness, warmth, fun, and delicious food!
We’re hunkering down here in Staunton to enjoy the season with our large extended local families, with special joy coming in watching the little ones get together with cousins, and their delight in imagining Santa’s trek across the world and down into our very own chimneys to fill stockings with little treasures.
It’s wonderful too to watch the kids learn to make and decorate cookies, grow wide-eyed over decorations, and to see that the spirit of giving is strong within them as they look for ways to make others happy this holiday season. Such fun!
I’m sending out my — and our team’s — heartfelt good wishes to you and yours at this time of year. We are so grateful for all of you in our lives and the life of Camp Alleghany for Girls.
2018 was a wonderful year for camp as we enjoyed an amazing staff and learned new techniques for being our best selves at camp.
Our International Staff thrilled us with textures and tasty insights into their worlds, our work toward next summer’s Leaders-In-Training Program inspired us, and new scientific research about technology and nature got us thinking and planning for ways to minimize the worst and strengthen the best in those two worlds.
We enjoyed seeing you at our first Winter Reunion and invite you to visit with us early in the New Year at our next one in Richmond, Virginia on January 6th.
And we’re super excited about our coming Mother-Daughter Weekend, a new program for would-be first-time campers and their moms.
Yes, 2019 looks to be another great year at Camp Alleghany for Girls, our 97th year but our 98th summer — confusing anniversary math, I know! — of offering an idyllic and yet positively-challenging summer camp experience for girls.
I can’t wait to see what my team cooks up, what our staff brings to the table, and what our campers will experience.
Happy New Year to you all — may it be happy, healthy, safe, and prosperous for you all!
— Elizabeth Shreckhise, Director, Camp Alleghany for Girls
