While the youngest of our campers (rising 2nd-rising 5th graders) are enjoying their first step into the amazing world of Camp Alleghany for Girls, and our 95th anniversary summer, I’d like to tell you about something behind-the-scenes that helped lead to Opening Day this summer.
The third annual Labor of Love/Laugh Out Loud (L.O.L.) Weekend, sponsored by the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association (CAAA) and hosted by Camp Alleghany Inc, was held June 8-11, just a week before camp opened. Twenty alumni and friends were in attendance. It was a remarkable weekend and so very much was accomplished. Camp Alleghany got ready for the 2017 season in style and here’s a quick recap of what went down for your pleasure:
Hello friends and alumni.
It’s my turn to send
a blog of our days at LOL weekend!
We arrived in a sprinkle but our hearts were not low.
We knew for our weekend the bright sun would show.
We hammered, we nailed, and the tents were all square.
We painted, and power washed, and put flowers everywhere.
We worked on our projects until each meal bell rang.
At night ’round the campfire we laughed and we sang.
We slept under the stars with the lanterns all lit.
Then got up once again to work – didn’t mind that one bit.
On Saturday night we cooked out by the “Dorch” – –
that’s the camp’s clever name for the alumni deck/porch.
After dinner we played “9 square in the air.”
Even the Green Team and Kitchen Staff were there.
What would Camp be without a fun Blue/Gray test?
After two years of Gray reign, this year Blues were best.
If you couldn’t be with us we missed you – have no fear-
We’ll welcome you gladly at L.O.L. next year!
I hope you’ll enjoy this wonderful gallery of photos from this year’s weekend. And that you’ll consider joining us for next year.
L.O.L. weekend is for adults, 18 and older, if you are alumni or friends of Camp Alleghany. Registration begins in early spring, so follow the blog to stay abreast of our news (subscribe for FREE in the upper right hand corner of your screen).
This annual Thursday through Sunday late Spring weekend is free of charge. Watch for postings from the CAAA this winter once dates are set for 2018. You don’t want to miss it. By the way — men are welcome. Even they caught the ‘Ghany spirit and joined in the fun! Just ask the three troopers this year who shared the title of “Honor Boys!”
We also encourage you to join and support the CAAA for general alumni information, support of the camp, and to stay in the loop on L.O.L. Weekend and other alumni gatherings.
Here’s to Camp Alleghany for Girls!
