To all of our dear Camp Alleghany for Girls extended family — our campers, camp families, staff past and present, our Alumnae, and friends — we wish you the happiest Thanksgiving!
I am literally stealing away from a very busy time of preparing to host (a small family) Thanksgiving at my house this year, and I can’t believe I’m doing this with three kids under 10 running around the house!
But phew, deep breath, I am doing it, and I am making it fun!
But even as pies bake and the turkey roasts and timers are ticking and little people are directed to perform their chores, I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you and let you know how grateful we all for all of you, each and every one of you.
Camp Alleghany is what it is — a nearly 100 year old institution — because you all give your love, kindness, support, and involvement to Camp as a place, as a memory, as an idea, and as an ongoing relationship.
As in other times when something has hit camp hard (think the big flood a few years ago) you were there for us in this crazy Covid year with donations, with commitments to roll over your registrations to the next summer, by joining us on Zoom campfires, and with just asking us how we were doing, and if you could help.
Your words of encouragement and financial backing have made what could have been a death blow to a seasonal business something that we could weather with a few bumps, but without breaking.
We see you, we feel you, we care about you, we’re thankful to you and grateful for you. Thank you so much!
Hold all your dear ones close this Thanksgiving, and look forward to seeing those from whom you’re parted for the time being.
Speaking of which, we can’t wait to see all of you next summer and boy won’t that day in the Dining Hall of “Thanksgiving Dinner” ‘Ghany style be a fun one? As will our Opening Days and seeing all of you again after this long year apart.
Happy Thanksgiving, good eating, and much love!
Warmly,
— Elizabeth Shreckhise, Director, Camp Alleghany for Girls
