Like so many of us, my family feels such heaviness in our hearts for the time we’ll miss at Camp Alleghany for Girls this summer.
After many years of excited waiting, this year both my young girls were going to spend three weeks at Term Camp, followed by our annual tradition of attending Family Camp. It’s unfathomable to think that Alleghany’s 99th summer will not be filled with a host of eager ‘Ghany girls delighting in our many favorite traditions.
However, as ‘Ghany families, supporters, and alumni, we know that while camp traditions such as Lunch Under the Apple Tree (LUTAT), Vespers, and our beloved annual Blue/Gray competition (Go Gray!) fill the summer with meaning and enjoyment, camp continues to live within us after each summer, and even from long ago.
‘Ghany is firmly rooted in our hearts whether we’re on Tent Row or not.
As your Alumni Association, we’re committed to bringing alumni, friends and campers together to support Camp Alleghany’s mission to “naturally inspire growth through honor, loyalty and friendship.” With all that’s going on in our world today, this mission has never been more important. While we may not be able to spend our summer on the Greenbrier, we can still come together to support Alleghany in its greatest time of need.
Many alumni, parents and special camp friends have reached out asking how they can help. After careful reflection, we’ve decided that a gift to the ‘Ghany We Will Give Fund is the most straightforward way to provide urgently needed, current-use funds for camp. Alternatively, you can send a check made out to Camp Alleghany (memo: ‘Ghany We Will Give) and mail it to:

Your generous non-tax deductible contribution will help to ensure that our beloved camp continues to thrive over the next 99 years. Thank you for your support!
Additionally, Camp Alleghany for Girls and the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association will host virtual activities throughout the summer months for campers, counselors, staff and alumni to rally together in the most spirited way we can right now. Think Blue/Gray rivalries, Junior Counselor competitions, and more…Stay tuned and get excited!
Together, we can do our part to keep the traditions and spirit of Alleghany alive and well from our own homes. Thank you for joining me and the rest of the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association in this effort. We are grateful!
If you have any questions about donating, or about joining our association and connecting with us, or just something to share, please reach out via e-mail — we’d love to her from you.
Much ‘Ghany love,
Elizabeth Riddle Hoover, Board President, Camp Alleghany Alumni Association
