I say this every year, but how is it possibly June already?
Summer is fast approaching, and there’s so much to look forward to as we begin another season on the banks of the Greenbrier River.
And as we get ready for another Opening Day at camp, I’m so excited to announce the 2019 ‘Ghany We Will Give campaign for this summer, as it is one I feel many of our girls will find near and dear to their hearts.
Last year, we partnered with the Family Refuge Center by collecting feminine hygiene products and baby essentials to help those families seeking assistance. The past two summers have been our most successful yet, collecting hundreds of items each term. By partnering with the Family Refuge Center, our girls helped ensure that women and children in the surrounding areas did not go without hygiene products during this past year.
Now in the program’s sixth year, we are honored to be working with the Greenbrier Humane Society. Established in 1965, it’s a non-profit organization committed to the following programs for animals: spay/neuter, adoption, lost and found help, and educational programs with area schools.
The Greenbrier Humane Society’s primary mission is to protect animals from neglect, abuse and exploitation, to advocate for their interest and welfare, and to inspire awareness and compassion for all living things. The shelter is located in Lewisburg, and for ‘Ghany We Will Give, we’ll be collecting items this summer to help with the needs of the current and future shelter animals.
How You Can Help
Our hope is that every camper will bring something to donate to the Greenbrier Humane Society as they enter camp on opening day. Our goal is 100% participation. It is our way of helping to cultivate a giving spirit among our campers and to demonstrate by example that camp is a place that engages with the wider community in both gratitude and service.
