Camp is right around the corner — just 18 days away! Can you believe it?!
I know everyone is anxious and excited to cross that river (maybe for the first time!) but before we do, I’d like to share our excitement about the ‘Ghany We Will Give campaign for 2015!
Last year, we launched ‘Ghany We Will Give, a way for campers, counselors, and alumni to give back to the Greenbrier County, West Virginia community for their years of hospitality as the seat of Camp Alleghany.
We kicked off our campaign last year with a food drive, and were overwhelmed with the response. Between all three camp sessions, we were able to donate food to the Lewisburg, White Sulphur, and Ronceverte food banks (serving over 350 families in need each month)!
It was so wonderful to be a part of this, and to witness the generosity of our wide Camp Alleghany community, of those of you young and old, current campers and past, families, friends, and neighbors. What a delight!
So now, I’m super excited to announce the ‘Ghany We Will Give campaign for this year! We’re supporting a really important cause — the American Cancer Society — by participating in Relay For Life® of Greenbrier County.
While the actual local event (Greenbrier County) will happen before campers even arrive on June 20th, it will not stop us from collecting donations and having our own mini relay walk during each session this summer.
Here’s how it will work at Camp Alleghany:
Each term we will walk the camp loop, enjoy music and treats, hang out as a camp community, all in an effort to make a difference in the fight against cancer. Doesn’t that sound great?
I would love for your camper family to join one or more of our three teams:
Every Relay For Life event is a time for family and friends to honor cancer survivors, remember those lost to this disease, and raise funds and awareness to help end cancer forever.
- By joining the Camp Alleghany Relay For Life team(s) and helping us fundraise, more people in more communities will:
- Have the information and tools they need to avoid getting cancer or find the disease early, when it’s easiest to treat.
- Have 24/7 access to help.
- Benefit from the progress being made toward discovering the causes of cancer and enabling its cures.
- Get access to lifesaving screenings and treatment.
Too many people will be touched by cancer this year. This Relay For Life event is one small opportunity for us to deepen the camp experience by inviting our campers and camp community to give of themselves, to learn about the struggles of others, and to participate in change.
We want to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease. I hope you will join us!
Please, use the links above to check out our team page and register! Following registration, you will be able to reach out to family and friends to receive online donations for our event.
