As Director of Family Camp, I have lots of good reasons for you and your family to come. I’ve been creating exciting activities that are sure to result in lasting memories for families. The feeling for Family Camp is so strong that many families come back summer after summer.
And it’s always a certainty that your family will meet new families with whom to bond in the Alleghany experience. It’s amazing how we can build a community of people in such a short period of time through sleeping in tents together, sharing meals together, enjoying activities with each other people, and enjoying Evening Activities together.
Camp is very much a “bubble environment” with little outside distractions. The sense of community happens quickly as you live among your neighbors in an environment like camp. Bonding takes place by eating a meal together, learning a new skills, going caving together with Program Direct Casey Tucker or learning to build a campfire with Chip, or taking a yoga class together, or two moms sitting together while their children swing in the middle of Jr. Camp.
Camp is the common thread whether you are an alumni or a new family. Just being there brings you together!
Here’s what Camp Alleghany for Girls Director Elizabeth Shreckhise has to say about Family Camp:
With over 50 Family Camp summers under our belt, we know that Family Camp offers something unique and valuable for family enjoyment and renewal. And to me, the most compelling reason to come to Camp Alleghany’s Family Camp is to truly connect with your family while also connecting with nature and disconnecting with the distractions of the outside world.Families find that being in our serene, natural, rustic setting allows space for deep interpersonal connections and perhaps even some personal growth.Feeling stressed out by work? By the daily grind? Commuting? Over-scheduled kids and extra-curricular activities? Too much screen time? Join us for a few days or a whole week on the banks of the Greenbrier River, and reconnect with yourself, your family, and other families in this wholesome, timeless setting!”
Kids and Family
My daughters Betsy and Sarah Helms can speak to the joys of Family Camp from the kids’ perspective. They love hanging with friends, and spending time with family doing fun activities with a great staff.
Betsy enjoys Rifle and doing Arts & Crafts.
With Family Camp registration opening on Saturday February 1st, we hope you’ll plan to join us on the banks of the Greenbrier River for a week (or however many days within the week that you wish to come)! I’m sure it will be the best summer yet!
