For those of you who know Dixon O’Donnell, she was the one to hatch the idea and get it going. And I must say, she did an awesome job organizing everything! The event was open to all former Camp Alleghany counselors from any year in the past.
I made a meal of lasagna, salad, fruit, veggies, and brownies for everyone to share but the brownies weren’t eaten because…Taylor surprised me with a birthday cake! Yes, it was my birthday the next day and what better way to celebrate it than with camp friends?! (The cake was flourless of course, since I eat in the Paleo style. But it was so delicious and a total delight!)
Everyone had a great time reminiscing and talking about camp. Taylor and I had thought about a game we could play, and make it Blue vs. Gray — but there were far more Grays in attendance than Blues, so we didn’t think we could make it fair 🙂 Clearly this means we need more Blues to come next time! 😉
Again and again
On that note, YES, we want to make the counselor reunion an annual event! It doesn’t always have to be at my house — we’re thinking of rotating locations each year. In fact if you’re interested in hosting some time, let us know. While the gathering was small this year, we know it will grow into a bigger event year after year and we hope YOU will come!
Obviously one of the best reasons to come is for the joy of seeing old friends and the pleasure of meeting new ones, all orbiting around our shared love for Ghany.
But another reason to come is to keep alive your network of connections made at and through Camp Alleghany. You never know who might give you a tip, introduce you to a key person, or help you get a job because you stay in touch this way! We have a pretty dynamic and powerful group of women who’ve been at Ghany and it is a resource you should strive to stay close to. Most everyone who has been a counselor has said at least once some version of,
The friends I’ve met at Camp Alleghany are among the best of my life!
Of the women in attendance, the group was mixed between some who were committed to working for ‘Ghany during Summer 2014, and some who were not…yet. But at least three women there were seriously considering applying. And you should, too! We have some available position still open. Current available positions include:
- Head of Arts and Crafts
- Head of Dance
- Head of Ropes
- Head of Tennis
- Head of Wild World
- 2 Unit Head positions
- Midway Mom
- Blue/Gray Mentors
- Heads of Carnival and 4-Year
- Basic Counselor Positions
I’ll tell you more about these positions later this week, in Friday’s blog. But if you’re wondering about a summer job this year, now’s the time to start looking, considering, and applying.
