We’re still absolutely heartbroken that we’re unable to offer our regular summer programming this summer due to the various restrictions placed on camps during the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the same time, we’ve actually found a silver lining in the midst of this that we hope will be comforting news and a nurturing opportunity for you and your families.
Through creativity, staying agile, and bringing our “A-Game” to the table, we’ve adapted our offerings to make the Camp Alleghany facilities available to families and “family units” this summer for three sessions of what we’re calling Family Retreats.
An alternative to our traditional Family Camp*, we’ve developed this 2020-specific overnight experience to give you and your family the chance to spend a few nights away together for a gentle vacation on the banks of the Greenbrier River.
While you’re here, you’ll spend your time relaxing, enjoying our grounds, and indulging in river activities, hiking, campfires, sports, and more. You’ll stay in our platform tents under the stars, or in a cabin, and all your meals will be provided in our Dining Hall. Camp as we know it may not be happening, but you can still take a family vacation to your child’s favorite place on earth!
If, like us, you’re sick and tired of being cooped up, locked down, and unable to fully access life’s pleasures and enjoyments, then Family Retreats may be your perfect antidote to the quarantine spring!
The best way to describe Family Retreats is to say that Camp Alleghany will be acting more like a private campground during these sessions and that families or “family units” will be enjoying solo type vacations near to, but not fully unified with, other families.
Operating within a COVID-19-aware structure, you’ll still enjoy the river, the grounds, and some of our day and nighttime activities within your family unit, separated on Tent Row from other families’ tents, and separated by six feet from other family units in any activities or events and in our Dining Hall.
We further have special sanitation measures for bathrooms, the Dining Hall, and activity areas and their equipment.
We go into much more specific detail about all aspects of Family Retreats here , including our Dates & Rates. We also have a Family Retreats FAQ. Please read these pages thoroughly and discuss things with your family.
If after reading all our information you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us!
We encourage you to act quickly to register if Family Retreats sounds like just what you could use right now as we can only take 18 families per session and registrations are already filling up quickly.
If you’re ready to jump on board, you can register right away.
Though it will be bittersweet to have to wave from six feet away, we do still believe that our rustic and charming setting, the gorgeousness of the river, mountains, sky, stars, breezes, and peacefulness, along with fun activity options for young and old, will make this adapted program a welcome relief and even a bright spot during these trying times.
We hope to see you this summer!
*For those who have attended our traditional Family Camp in the past, we do want to give a disclaimer that these Family Retreats are NOT our traditional Family Camp. It’s very important for the success of this alternative offering that everyone who chooses to take us up on Family Retreats understands that this is NOT Family Camp per se, and everyone agrees to support the (hopefully) one-time need for the social distancing measures and other modifications that are designed for added safety during the COVID-19 time at Family Retreats.
