Dear Parents, Alumni, Campers and Friends,
My name is Charlotte Robins and I’ll be this year’s marketing assistant for Camp Alleghany for Girls! I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with the Curren Media Group, camp’s website and marketing consultants, and to contribute some exciting and informative blog content for the camp website from right where all the action is happening — on the ground at camp all summer!
Camp and beyond and back again
I’m 22 years old and recently graduated in May from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. I have a degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations. And I have creative interests in marketing, advertising, and design, which is why I’ve decided to take on this responsibility in addition to my counselor tasks.
But Camp Alleghany isn’t new to me. In fact I feel like I’m “coming home!” I’ve been part of Camp Alleghany since 2006 as a camper, then a Junior Counselor, and a Midway Mom, and now I am back after taking two summers off! Woo hoo!
My hats at camp
In addition to my internship this summer, I’m so thrilled to announce that I’ll also be a Junior Camp Unit Head and this year’s START-UP MOM!
For those who don’t know, Junior and Senior Camp are each divided into four units. Each Unit is supervised by its Unit Head, an experienced and mature counselor. My role, along with the other seven Unit Heads, is to supervise the counselors who live in my Unit, to help them with their counselors, and also plan some fun activities along the way!
My Unit is 4, which is the 12-year-old campers (or the Start-Ups as they are known), the oldest campers in Junior Camp. As their “Mom,” I provide support for the girls and their counselors. My job is to always be there for them and to help them prepare for the transition from Junior to Senior Camp.
It was an unexpected turn of events that led me back to camp this year but I’m excited to be here, to embrace roles in camp and communicating about camp, and can’t wait to see what the next seven weeks hold as I share that news with you!
So stay tuned to the blog this summer for some real live on-the-ground reporting from the heart of Wild and Wonderful West Virginia!
