Earlier this week campers chose their classes for first term and have since been making their daily activity rounds with passion and glee! I love the buzz, bounce, hum and BANG of these classes as I make my own rounds around the camp. And I literally mean buzz, bounce, hum and BANG because those are […]
After months of preparations, renovations, upgrades, training, communications and planning for FUN, finally opening day of term camp arrived at Camp Alleghany. It’s always such a pleasing sight to see our top notch staff decked out in their crisp uniforms and smiles on their faces as they greet parents and campers both on the other […]
No matter how long you’ve been doing it, there’s always something new to learn about running a camp. Whether it’s deciding how to deal with the impact of electronic gadgets from the “outside” world on camp policy, exploring new ideas for activities, or simply updating methods for tracking information, it’s an industry like any other […]
The screeching of the metal barge against the concrete landing was my final call; my last chance to stay within the bounds of my safe reality. I didn’t have to walk down the rocky, uneven path and onto the floating barge, but my inner desire for adventure had grown strong. I’d become weary of my […]
My youngest daughter Bennett is no stranger to Camp Alleghany. She’s been going to Family Camp for three years, and has been patiently awaiting her time in the “sun.” This summer she’s finally, at age 7, ready to come to Camp Alleghany’s Mini-Camp…
Ever since I was a little girl I’ve looked forward in the spring to spending each summer at Camp Alleghany.
Over the years I had different reasons for looking ahead as the summer drew closer. But whether it was being a camper myself, meeting up with my cousins for family camp, or eventually becoming a counselor myself, one thing remained constant…
Camp Alleghany is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When my mom told me that I was going to be attending a three week all girls camp, I became very stubborn. I insisted that it was going to be horrible, hot, and boring. And that was before I learned […]
I was so excited to see that we’re now up to almost 1,000 fans on Facebook. What a great way for us all to share photos, chime in with stories, and keep in touch not only with camp, but with each other. It’s so fun when I see a shout out from one camper to another, or when someone posts an anecdote or memory. We’ve also been having fun with trivia, so stay tuned to see if you have the correct answer on some little-known Alleghany fact. (Though the top-secret ones so special to our traditions will stay…top secret!)
Camp Alleghany is proud to announce our brand new blog! It’s so exciting for us to have a new way to be able to keep in touch with campers new and old, along with families, friends and supporters. We hope you’ll visit often to get regular updates on news and happenings around the camp, and to join the conversations with us, adding your thoughts to our blog posts in the comment space below each post.
