There’s good news about one of our special traditions at camp. It’s about our international staff members. Right now Taylor is hiring new international counselors for next year, carrying on the tradition of bringing different cultural aspects to our camp.
After hearing Taylor talk about some of her interviews and new hires, I got so excited and started looking through staff photos from previous years, which are the ones posted with this blog.
We’re always really excited to meet our international friends, and to have them come to camp and work with us. Whether it’s their strong work ethic, charming pronunciation, different names for daily things, native traditions, or unique views on things, they always add so much to the staff experience as well as the camper experience.
This year we have three returning international counselors; Georgia is returning for her 3rd summer, this year as a Head Counselor of Junior Camp. She’s from Australia, as is her countrywoman, Georgina, who’s coming to be Head of Dance. All of this gives us lots of opportunities to say, “down under,” and reference kangaroos, “Oz,” and rainsticks — always good fun!
Mariska (pictured below) is from England and returning this year as Head of Swimming (as well as reigning Ga-ga Ball champ).
I know that our international counselors, or any Non-Camper Counselor Club(bers) (NCCCs) for that matter, are able to return to Alleghany for another summer. We feel our campers and counselors broaden their horizons with these global relationships and that the Alleghany family grows as a result.
So let’s all look forward to giving these great ‘Ghany Girls (and any other new and/or international staff or NCCCs) a warm yankee welcome when they arrive stateside!
One final staff hiring note
Speaking of hiring, our staff is almost complete, but not quite. So if you’ve been on the fence now is the time to get your application in! Read our page about being an Alleghany counselor and then submit your application.
