Fall is in the air and the holidays will be here before we know it!
Now, as final touches are made to the facilities, camp is getting ready to tuck in for the winter months and await our time along the Greenbrier next year.
But before we say goodbye to this last season and await the coming of the new one, we think it’s important to look back at a particularly heartwarming aspect of the Camp Alleghany program to remember how wonderful — and essential — is our Lantern Scholarship
The gift of camp
The Lantern Scholarship once again helped send three amazing ‘Ghany girls to camp this summer!
All three girls — two Senior Campers and a Junior Camper — were able to return, for their third year of camp.
Without the Lantern Scholarship fund, these young woman would not have been able to attend camp. It is with the help of donors like you and I that this program began and is continuing to grow.
The scholarship program was launched in 2012 with an impressive first year of gift giving. Last year, with the help of 36 friends and alumni, we raised over $12,000!
As the year comes to an end, please consider joining the Camp Alleghany Alumni Association Board (CAAA) in giving to the Lantern Scholarship fund. Please help us have another record-breaking year in donations as well as participants. No amount is too small and every dollar counts!
Fall Matching Gift Campaign
In order to help in this endeavor, the CAAA Board is challenging you with our Fall Matching Gift Campaign that will run from now until December 31st.
CAAA Board members and I have pledged to match up to $2,500 in donations from you! We, as a Board, are committed to give back to our beloved Camp Alleghany in this special way through the Lantern Scholarship fund.
I hope that you will join us in our efforts! Your donation is tax deductible.
The most convenient way to give is by donating directly online through our partners at the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (GVCF). But first, go to this scholarship page on our site to see instructions for how to donate through them — and follow the link on that page to get to the GVCF online.
You may also send a check made payable to the Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation (GVCF), PO Box 1682, Lewisburg, WV 24901 with CAAA Lantern Fund in the memo line.
If you have any questions, please e-mail me and I’ll be glad to help you out!
In ‘Ghany love,
— Stephanie McPherson Astley, Lantern Scholarship Chair, VP of Development, Camp Alleghany Alumni Association
