On the last day of Mini Camp, campers and counselors in Sports played Camp Alleghany’s own version of the beloved Harry Potter series game, Quidditch.
Because we, unfortunately, don’t have any flying broomsticks at camp, our version was a bit different than the game that Harry plays at Hogwarts, the wizards and witches academy he attends throughout the books.
Game on
Muggle hockey sticks and regular brooms that were used to sweep the tents for inspection made excellent substitutes for the Firebolts and Nimbus 2000s at Hogarts. Imagination supplied the rest.
Our activity class was divided into teams and each team made up its own name and cheer.
Each team had one Keeper and the rest of the players were Chasers.
The Chasers run down the field and try to score points with the Quaffle. For our Quaffle, we used a volleyball.
Some of the counselors who weren’t on one of the teams were Beaters. The Beaters threw Bludgers (soft dodge balls) at the Chasers. If a Chaser was hit with a Bludger, she had to run to the other end of the field and tap her home goal.
Both the campers and counselors had a blast playing Quidditch. It was the perfect way to end a fun week in Sports at Mini Camp!
I hope you’ll enjoy my photo essay on the game as much as I enjoyed taking the shots!
