Before I say anything else I just hope I can convince you to post your Halloween costumes on our Facebook page. It’s so fun to see what Ghany girls do on this imaginative holiday.
But I have an idea of what you can do, if you haven’t already nailed down a costume. You can create a camp-inspired Halloween costume and work one up by tonight!
Here are a few ideas:
Old school camper
You know all those vintage photos we have of campers back in the day, looking somewhat formal even when it wasn’t time for blue and whites?
Well you could be a camper just like that for Halloween. Just find a nice pair of shorts, khaki or blue, a crisp white button down or polo shirt tucked in with belt in place, a tie or kerchief around your neck, white crew socks, Keds, saddle or boat shoes and a makeshift camp “patch” affixed to your chest and voila — classic camper. Carry a lantern or flashlight, and/or put a rucksack and bedroll on your back for added fun!
You can take that very same costume and modify it to be a camp counselor. Just add a whistle, clipboard, sunglasses and water bottle, maybe even a walkie-talkie on your belt, and you’re good to go.
Take the above counselor costume and modify it to be the instructor of any camp class.
A “fake” rifle and shooting jacket and you’re a rifle counselor.
Throw a life jacket on and put a swim suit under your counselor garb along with some Chacos on your feet and you’re a canoe instructor.
Throw a beret atop your head and gather a paint brush and simple palette and you’re an old school camp arts and crafts teacher.
Cut out a red cross and affix it to the front and back of your shirt, carry a first aid kit, put band-aids askew all over yourself and go as a klutzy infirmary assistant.
Put on sneakers, grab a racquet and ta da — you’re a camp tennis coach.
You get the picture. Maybe you’ve got some ideas? If so, please post them below or on our Facebook page.
If you want to really play up camp stereotypes you can go as the homesick camper, tears painted on your face, a box of letters to mom and dad in hand, and a security blanket along for the fun.
Put on a tee shirt, white apron, checkered pants, pot and ladle, and a “skull style” hat and you can be a camp cook.
Get all dressed up in your camp costume and then add mosquitos, flies, bees, lizards, and snakes to your costume and go as the deep woods wilderness, or Wild World, camper.
You can think outside the box and drape a sheet over you with an easy frame and go as a tent! Or turn yourself into an archery target. Build a cardboard canoe on either side of you and go as a canoe. Drape orange, red, and yellow silks around you (with a touch of blue) build some cardboard flames and go as a campfire.
Just think of the fun.
Whatever you do this Halloween have fun, stay safe, be smart, and show us your pictures!
Happy Halloween, Camp Alleghany friends!
