Greetings from the sunny (FINALLY!!) banks of the Greenbrier River!
After an exciting day of signing up for activities, taking camp yearbook photos, and some tent bonding, the campers came together with their units for a night of games and fun last week! And just because I’m a Counselor doesn’t mean that I don’t get to join in on the excitement. My Start-Ups are some of the most energetic and enthusiastic girls at camp, so what better way to exert some of that spirit and creativity than a game of AIRBAND! 🎸
What is Airband you ask?
Airband is a camp tradition where tents pair up for a lip sync battle (complete with costumes and choreography, of course).
The Start-Ups came to Unit Night with jubilant attitudes, ready for a night of friendly competition. Their creativity blew me away and the song choices were on point.
The winners were the campers of Tents 24 and 25 who graced us with a ukulele rendition of Vance Joy’s “Riptide.” Tents 26 and 27 took girl power to the next level with a performance to Beyonce’s “Run the World (Girls)” that was full of attitude and sass.
The ladies of Tents 28 and 30 threw it back to 2006 (the year of my Start-Up summer!) with a High School Musical classic, “What Time Is It.” And in true pajama party fashion, Tents 31, 32, and 33 broke out their best hairbrushes and PJs to lip sync Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” The counselors even joined in!
This Is Why It’s Worth It
Nights like this are what make the long days of being a counselor completely worth it. I’m blessed with this group of enthusiastic campers who are just as excited to be here as I am. Seeing their eager faces on First Term Opening Day made the flood crisis a thing of the past. Everyone here is ready for a sunny and DRY term and to make memories that will last a lifetime.
The Flood Won’t Stop The Fun
As many of you know, First Term has been shortened to two weeks but we’ve packed all of the most important Evening Activities in so that the campers get the ultimate Term Camp experience! This means our weekly Campfire and Vespers nights are still on (along with some other surprises!) and everyone in camp looked forward to a Blue/Gray Surprise where the new campers got to find out what team they are on!
Tune in on Thursday for another of my blog entries, this time on the Blue/Gray color story!
